Over the past year, many people have asked us what our name means. Here is a short explanation of why we included the word “Maranatha” in our practice name.
Maranatha is an Aramaic word that means “The Lord has come” or “The Lord is coming.” There is some debate about which phrase best describes the word. Regardless, we love the inherent meaning. It reminds us that God comes for His people. This is why we counsel our clients with hope.
At the beginning of time, God created a perfect world and “walked” with the people He created (Genesis 3:8). But that world and fellowship between God and man was destroyed by sin. This is because people disobeyed God, bringing sin into the world and creating a barrier between themselves and their Creator (Genesis 3:16). Yet, God saw their brokenness and had a plan to send His Son Jesus Christ to save people. Jesus came to earth as a man, lived a perfect life and then died and atoned for our sins before a holy God. Our ability to fellowship directly with God was then restored. His Spirit is with us until the end of time (Matthew 28:20). God promises to physically come again for His people and to dwell with them in a new Heaven and Earth (Revelation 21:1-4).
So we have hope because of the reality that God is with us, making all things new, now and throughout eternity.
This is why we picked the name Maranatha. Now you know!
We pray that this coming year would be one filled with hope in our Lord who has come for us.
