Anxiety

Anxiety occurs when our minds are too pre-occupied with what could go wrong in the future. Anxious people try to avoid or control situations to prevent possible catastrophes. The problem is that this pattern sets them on a loop of worry and avoidance that can be crippling. Anxiety-related diagnosis include Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Social Anxiety, and General Anxiety. When treating anxiety and depression, we first invite counselees to find peace in the truth that God is in control. We then help to challenge thoughts and feelings that stand in the way of trust in a powerful God, even during difficult times. Using a variety of methods, we explain to counselees how anxiety can take over our brains. Most strategies anxious people use (avoidance of thoughts, and situations they perceive scary) to feel better actually makes anxiety worse. We help them practice taking every thought captive so they can live with greater trust in God.
