Layla Zickefoose, MSW, LISW

Counselor and Practice Owner

Layla Zickefoose is a licensed counselor in Virginia and Ohio. She earned her master’s in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She enjoys  whole-person treatment, believing that God created our physical, mental and spiritual selves to be intricately connected. 

Layla earned a certification in nutrition and mental health in 2022 and also has specialized training in trauma care. Before moving to Ohio, Layla worked as a counselor in the Washington D.C. area, and volunteered to help those caught in human trafficking. Layla and her husband Dusty have two young kids. 

Layla’s specialties: Anxiety, Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Trauma and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Michael Sherr, Ph.D., M.S.W

Michael Sherr is Chair and Professor of Social Work at Cedarville University. He is an internationally recognized Christian scholar with over 25 years of practice and teaching experience. Michael enjoys using God’s word  as a tool in counseling and is specifically focused on biblical discipleship at Maranatha Family Counseling. 

Michael  is also a co-founder of the Association of Christians in Health & Human Services, an organization supporting health and human services providers who are committed to Jesus Christ. 

Michael and his wife Stacey have been married for over 30 years and have 3 children.

Michael Sherr is Chair and Professor of Social Work at Cedarville University. He is an internationally recognized Christian scholar with over 25 years of practice and teaching experience. Michael enjoys using God’s word  as a tool in counseling and is specifically focused on biblical discipleship at Maranatha Family Counseling.

Alan D. Gruber, MA, MSW, LISW-S

Alan D. Gruber, MA, MSW, LISW-S

Alan Gruber has formal training in biblical and clinical counseling before completing his master’s in Clinical Social Work from The University of Cincinnati. He has a variety of experience ministering to others, particularly to those facing major life transitions. 

Alan enjoys studying and reading in his free time. Alan and his wife Joan have two daughters and one grandson. Joan and one of his daughters are also social workers! Their other daughter provides foster care. 

Alan’s specialties: Grief, Health Issues, Aging, and Men’s Issues.

Beth Brown has a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Political Science from Wright State University and her master’s in Social Work from Indiana Wesleyan. She works as a school mental health counselor, and has experience with behavior intervention and trauma informed care. 

Beth is a leader for Bible Study Fellowship and really enjoys ministry to women. Beth also loves to travel and took an epic trip to Spain in 2023!

Diana Comiskey, M.Ed., LPC, LMHC

Diana Comiskey, M.Ed., LPC, LMHC

Diana Comiskey is a licensed counselor in Virginia and in Florida. She has been working with individuals and families for over a decade. She has experience serving youth in community mental health and in the school system. 

Diana has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University  and a master’s of Education in Family Counseling from The College of William and Mary. She and her husband live in Florida with their daughter.

George Huff, MSSA, LISW – S

George Huff is a Senior Professor of Social Work at Cedarville University and has been there for the past 23 years. He especially enjoys working with couples, doing marriage counseling and pre-marital counseling. 

George also has a heart to help people who have experienced trauma, particularly medical trauma. George and his wife were high school sweethearts and have two daughters and eight grandchildren. 

George’s specialties: Marriage, Pre-Marital, Men’s Issues, and Medical Trauma

Hannah Gaskins, LPC

Hannah Gaskins, LPC

Hannah Gaskins has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Hawaii and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. As someone involved in track and field in college, Hannah enjoys helping athletes strive for their goals while staying emotionally healthy. 

In her free time, she likes to stay active in her community and church. She is also training to represent the United States’ national bobsledding team!

Dusty Zickefoose oversees the billing and daily operations of Maranatha Family Counseling. As a former corrections officer and an aid at a psychiatric residential facility, Dustin spent years working to help struggling people through vast experiences. He has a specific desire to be involved in the soul care of others and to help men struggling with sexual sin.

Dusty graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s in Criminal Justice in 2017. In his free time he enjoys woodworking and reading about theology and the bible.

Sarah Kittle, MA, RD, LD

Sarah Kittle, MA, RD, LD

Sarah Kittle is a dietician who has a heart for mental health and wellness. She is particularly interested in working with people struggling with eating disorders, body image struggles and with athletes. 

She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Olivet Nazarene University and her master’s degree in Nutrition at Ball State University. She is licensed in Indiana and Kentucky. Sarah is a cross country and track athlete and still enjoys running. Sarah and her husband have two little girls.

Sarah’s specialities: Eating Disorders, Women’s Health, Gut Health, and Sports Nutrition. 

Offering faith-based mental health services to instill hope, healing, and resilience. Guiding individuals, couples, and families towards emotional wellbeing.
